Call for Participants: Professional Seminar #1, From Expo ’85 Tsukuba to Apple: A Life and Career Abroad

The International Education Navigation Center at Kyushu University will host the Professional Seminar for undergraduate and graduate students of Kyushu University. This seminar welcomes a globally active professional as a guest speaker, who will share real-life experiences related to choosing to study and work abroad, as well as the motivations that led them to broaden their global perspective.

All students, including first-year undergraduates, are welcome to attend. There will be plenty of time for Q&A, allowing students to freely ask questions about concerns, uncertainties, and the journey toward working overseas. Open to students from all disciplines, this seminar offers an opportunity to reflect on university life and future career paths.

This seminar is organized as part of the Kyushu University Global Professional Certificate Program.

From Expo ’85 Tsukuba to Apple: A Life and Career Abroad

Guest: Hiroshi Akiba

Born in Ibaraki, Japan in 1980. After studying at Ibaraki National College of Technology and University of Tsukuba, he moved to the U.S. in his 20s, earning a PhD in Computer Science from UC Davis. He worked at Intel on GPU development and now works at Apple on UI for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, including iOS 26’s Liquid Glass.
